A short tale about our work at GuardianCam (a la Children's stories).
Once upon a time, in a land called San Diego, California, there was an Internet Viewing System developed and operated by a company called GuardianCam. Like any company, they wanted to see it grow. One of their consultants asked a local Web Designer to come in for a meeting one day.
When she got there, she was greeted warmly and got right down to business. "We need to drive sales!" they exclaimed. "Here is our target audience and these are our competitors!" they proclaimed. "What can you do?" they asked. With great confidence she said, "I can increase the usability of your site, I can focus your messaging to your target audience, I can lighten up the graphic feel of the site without changing your great image."
And she did.

The biggest barrier to the success of GuardianCam's website was the confusing home page. If you scrolled down the page, you might discover links to the information on the site for parents and childcare center directors.

We recommended adding large graphics of a parent, a director, many children, and large identifying signs to ease the first-time visitor experience. We suggested keeping the easy-access login process for members.

Now when parents come to the site, they see a targeted message about GuardianCam's services. We also improved site usability by increasing navigation consistency and elimin- ating extraneous content in the member areas.
